Holiday Happenings at Fresh Ideas

Each year, our team at Fresh Ideas & Solutions tries to give back to our community in different ways.
This year, we have 3 different campaigns happening:
Food Drive for Friends In Need Food Bank
Every year, our team comes together to gather food and other everyday necessities for the local food bank. So far this year, our team has donated 30.6kg of food and we're still collecting!
The food drive is always close to our hearts. As members of the local food industry, we know the value of good food and how food can change a persons life. Food insecurity is a real problem and we know that our team can help our community when we need to the most. In the past, our team members have volunteered with the local food bank and some have had to lean on the local food bank during their time of need.

It's our turn to give back and our group sure takes pride in the effort!

Santa's Candy Helpers
This is another annual tradition at Fresh Ideas. Santa has asked our team to help him create a special gift for the boys and girls he visits with at the Maple Ridge Christmas Hamper. Our team fills these sweet bags with gummy frogs and bears for Santa to give out at events to wish a "Hoppy Holidays and Beary Christmas"!
This year, we have 800 bags that will be donated to a number of local charities to bring holiday smiles to faces across the Lower Mainland. It's a little something fun that the FIS team likes to donate to make the season even more jolly.

Christmas Cards for Canadian Armed Forces and Seniors
This campaign is new this year and was inspired by the message from the Canadian Armed Forces about the service members who are overseas for the holidays. On the heels of Remembrance Day, our team at Fresh Ideas wanted to make sure that the people keeping the world safe are feeling loved and cared for this holiday season when they can't be with the ones they care for most. So what do we do?
We have been writing Christmas Cards!
These lovely Christmas cards are being filled with wonderful messages of holiday cheer and appreciation, and will be sent to the Canadian Forces to be distributed to those members serving overseas.
While we were inspired to send holiday messages overseas, we were also thinking about those close to home who may not be receiving many holiday messages this year. So we have also been writing Christmas cards for a local retirement home in Maple Ridge for the local seniors to receive some love and wishes when they may not have family around. Our FIS team wants to make sure that everyone feels loved over the holidays.

The team at Fresh Ideas & Solutions Inc. is honoured to announce that our founder and president, Margaret Daskis, has been selected as one of the Top 3 nominees for the BC Food Processors Association Leadership Award at their annual FoodProWest tradeshow and gala.

Margaret has been a mentor and expert in the food industry for longer than she would care to admit, and has helped many food companies launch their products and students launch their careers. She has been an advocate for local food security during her years on the Metro Vancouver Agriculture Committee and the Maple Ridge Agriculture Committee by providing her insight into value-added products and how to sustain the local agriculture market. Margaret, as an inaugural member of the internationally recognized Certified Food Scientist designation, continues to improve her expertise by attending and organizing conferences, tradeshows, and webinars. She has also developed training courses for the BC government for new food companies, currently being taught in different venue around the province. As Margaret approaches her original vision of what Fresh Ideas & Solutions Inc. will ultimately become, being recognized by her peers as a leader in the industry is humbling and motivational.

The list of Leadership Award criteria includes: 10+ years of work experience in the industry; leads and inspires others to take on new initiatives to learn and grow; committed to developing and mentoring future leaders; committed to the growth and development of their organizations; positive contribution to the community and environment; sets a high standard of integrity through leading by example and presents themselves in a responsible and respectable manner.

We wish Margaret luck at the awards Gala on June 8th and know that she will continue to be a leader and valued resource in the Canadian food industry!
